As the summer grass season draws to a close, the club typically runs its annual ladies’, men’s and mixed tournaments.
The ladies’ tournament was first up in the summer diary and was held on a very hot Sunday in mid July. The number of pairs were smaller than usual but it still proved to be a very enjoyable round-robin tournament. The winner – preferring to stay out of the limelight – asked to remain anonymous in our coverage here, wanting to shun any potential public fanfare (we do get lots at Littlehampton Tennis Club obs! :)….so afraid we’ll have to leave you here in suspense guessing….!
The men’s doubles tournament was held on Sunday 15th August with seven pairs. The format was seeded with a play through and play back. This means the previous winners for a bye in the first round and then played one of the winners from that round in the second. The final between Stewart Lister and Karl Treagus against Cez Pahl and Curtis Wadey went to the wire with Stewart and Karl (only 17) winning on a championship tie break.
The mixed tournament held on Sunday 29th August also consisted of seven pairs and a round robin format. It was a very close affair with the result having to be calculated with a play back of total games played. Julie Hoare and Martin Lury were the winners.
